August 2023
As I’ve mentioned before, we can tell.
Why are we out here doing this internet thing?
And why do I keep repeating myself?
Because it bears repeating.
Intention matters.
As I’ve been clarifying my own path and my own desires, I’ve been digging back to some of my inspirational people. Some still hold the title, some are in a different phase of their journey (and I’m grateful for the time I got to share), some have gone sideways and I’m not sure I even knew the person in the first place.
It’s all good – everyone gets to have their journey without my opinion on it. We have too many opinions and not enough love and support.
I am struggling with how I do what I want to do in the capacities that we have (in these digital words, pictures and spaces).
Because if I was supposed to live under a rock or disconnected from the world, it probably would have happened by now (there were so many possibilities.)
And what if we asked ourselves the question, how do we USE internet, the socials, the things, for us as a community? Familial, neighborhood, world? (Nextdoor may be helpful but sometimes I wonder…)
I ask this question constantly for myself and I never come up with a consistent answer.
- Just keep doing my thing, sounding my “barbaric yarp”?
- Delete myself and opt out?
- Take all this energy and morph it into something else
The funniest thing is that I’m pretty darn good (if I say so myself) at doing the internet things for companies, causes, etc. that aren’t my own. I’ve been known to do email newsletters, socials and all the things with great results.
But for me personally and what I want to be known for – it feels incongruent to do these things. Even though these are the things you do.
I’m a person, not a brand (even if I do have a different title than my name).
The Still Small Voice is The Still Small Voice. God is God. There is not a universal brand. (The world would end instantly if that was the case.)
Because heck, even people in the same church, sitting next to each other don’t have the same view of God!
I don’t think we are in crisis. I think we are breaking open to reality. And I’m hoping as time goes on, we can break open to reality on the internet as well but maybe in a more supportive and loving way.
At one time in the history that we know of, there was “one” church that controlled everything. Then there were more speaking out against the problems in the others and trying to make it all better and more loving. Then it shattered (and still is shattering) into a million little pieces.
But the intent (vs. the content) of the groups are there and I think that’s making all the difference.
Maybe we can do that here. On our screens.
